Orange is the New Black Smoky Eye

Hello my lovelies! So happy you returned for another “out-of-the-box” makeup look. I will be taking you through how to recreate a smoky eye using just a few shades, but all within the same color family. The look will appear monochrome, but in reality it will be a multidimensional smoky eye sunrise.

There seems to be a new trend brewing this Spring Season, involving the color orange. I am seeing a series of orange lips, orange eye makeup, orange cheeks trend popping up all over social media and from brands on the runways.

The reign of simple, neutral no-makeup, makeup looks is over, it’s Springtime! Time to break out those bright red orange pouts, electric blue eyes, and peachy tone cheeks. Orange is not just for morning sunrises any more. More and more, this trend is appearing on the runway and I want to show you how to get the runway look in a wearable fashion, false lashes optional of course! Allure magazine published an article on this trend not too long ago and referenced seeing it on the runways Peter Som. The head makeup artist for the show Tom Pecheux gave the models of the show a horizon effect by blending bright orange shadow into pastel yellow, similarly to what I have done in my look today. He also used M.A.C Pro paint sticks in Genuine Orange and Pure White to make the look pop even more!

This sunrise inspired makeup look also appeared on the runways of Louis Vuitton, one of my all time favorite design houses. Citrus hues that give off cheerful vibes, put makeup artist Pat McGrath at the head of this trend by giving the look a bit of attitude and glam at the Louis Vuitton show. He paired a muted peach tone with lived in eyeliner and tons of mascara for a sultry eye that looked like the model had been dancing the night away.

The trend is also popping up on YouTube and Instagram. I drew even more inspiration from a popular YouTuber I love and admire, Ms. Melissa Alatorre from @alatorree on IG and Youtube. I highly recommend her channel if you love unorthodox makeup looks that are still wearable and inspire you to wear colors you might not think you could.

Now onto what I did and how I can help you recreate this look with minimal effort and colors in your makeup arsenal! First off, here is what you will need. Take a white eyeshadow base. I love using NYX jumbo pencil in “Milk” as a base all over the lid, but any white base will do. Maybelline color tattoos are great also. Then select a yellow matte, orange matte, and peach shimmery eyeshadows. I used a combo from Anastasia Beverly hills and Inglot shadows. I will list the exact colors below. Use the orange shade and dust it all over the crease and lid of your eye right below the brow bone area. Then slowly build the color on the crease only until you have a deep orange tone in the crease. Then using the yellow shadow go over the orange in the crease to create a subtle transition from orange to yellow right below the brow bone. Then layer the shimmer peach shade on the lower lid only to give the matte shadows more dimension and voilà you got yourself a pretty orange smoky eye, wearable for any occasion.

Now for the lips you can surely pick any color in the orange, red and neutral color families. I decided to pair the look with a mauve dusty pink color from Colourpop cosmetics. You can easily sub out this lip color for a peach nude instead for a more wearable everyday look!

I hope you all enjoy this look and please be sure to leave me your feedback any time! Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!
